DAY 5 - 'FATHERLESSNESS'
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father...”
- James 1:17 NIV
TRUTH #1: God is the perfect Father.
This truth is a hard truth for many people with father wounds to accept, and these wounds don’t always stem from obvious traumas like absence or abuse. Someone can have a loving, financially successful dad that’s always been present in their lives, and still develop an unhealthy performance-based mentality to prove how much they deserve to be loved.
Just as there are no perfect earthly fathers, there are no perfect children. News flash: YOU WILL MAKE MISTAKES IN LIFE! Many people’s perspective of their father is determined by how their father reacts to them doing something wrong. One of my mentors Gil has demonstrated God's true fatherly love to me in many ways. For the past 3 years, I've met him on a weekly basis and told him about every single sin struggle in my life not only for accountability but also to force myself into the reality that nothing I tell him can make him love me any more or any less than he already does. There have been weeks that I've messed up and dreaded talking to him out of fear that he would be disappointed in me and disown me as a mentee! But instead of hiding my wounds, I choose to be honest and vulnerable, and there has never been a time where I didn’t leave his office feeling loved, forgiven, and inspired. This only comes from inviting God into our wounded place believing these final truths:
TRUTH #2: You are God’s special possession.
“...you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession...”
1 Peter 2:9
You must abandon the orphan mentality that stems from earthly father wounds, and walk in the truth that stems from The Heavenly Father’s promises. Imagine walking in the confidence of knowing the creator of the universe is constantly fighting for you, loving you, and directing you! How much would this change your doubts, fears, and insecurities?!
Truth #3: God wants you to believe in Him as your Heavenly Father.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 NIV
This is the most important part of the series. Believing that God is who He says He is, and that He did what He says He did. Beyond finding healing freedom here on earth, this is how you secure your place in eternity with God. If you want to start your own personal relationship with Jesus, repeat this prayer out loud wherever you are:
“Lord, I’m broken and I need you. I know that You are perfect, and sin has separated me from you. But I also know that you love me too much to leave me in my brokenness. Thank you so much for sacrificing your life to pay the debts for my sins. I believe You came down to earth, died on the cross, and rose from the dead. I want You to be the Lord and Savior of my life. God, please help me turn from my sin, follow your ways, grow in my relationship with you, and share your love with the world. In Jesus' name, amen.”
If you just gave your life to Jesus, CONGRATS!!! The Bible says Heaven is rejoicing (Luke 15:10)! If you already have a relationship with Jesus, I pray this series has encouraged you to grow into a deeper relationship with Him. Either way, I encourage everyone to plug into a local body of Christ (church), seek out Godly mentors, and share this information with anyone that may need to hear it. Until next time!
