What's in a Name?

DAY 13 OF 13

The name above every name

Jesus is God. He has been God from eternity. He had a perfectly glorious position with God the Father. But He was ready to give up his glory and to become a human baby in order to save humans from the power of sin. He humbled Himself even more when He was despised, rejected and crucified. He was ridiculed: “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross” (Matthew 27:40). Jesus could have saved Himself, but preferred to be obedient to his calling by dying in the place of sinners.

Jesus’ shameful death was the turning point. After three days, He rose from the dead. Forty days later, He returned to heaven to take his place at the right hand of the throne of God, which is the most honorable place in the whole universe.

Many people nowadays believe in Jesus and glorify his name. Others despise it. But at the end of time, Jesus will receive full honor for his ministry. Then every knee will bow at his name, in heaven and on earth and under the earth. For God has highly exalted him and “bestowed on him the name that is above every name”! (Philippians 2:9-10)
