God's Plan and Promises for His PeopleSýnishorn
God plans heaven as our productive home.
Have you ever wondered what we'll do in heaven? Will we sit around on clouds and strum harps all day long? If that's your concept of heaven, you've been watching too much television. Heaven will be our productive home.
There we will fellowship. We will enjoy the company of others who have trusted God, like Abraham, Moses, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, Andrew, and Paul. And the great missionaries-John Wycliffe, William Carey, John Wesley, John Knox, and Martin Luther. There will be great fellowship in heaven.
There will be rest in heaven. Because of sin, we have to work by the sweat of our brow (Gen. 3:19). But Hebrews 4:9 tells us: "There remains, therefore, a rest for the people of God." In heaven, those who died in the Lord will have rest from their labors (Rev. 14:13).
Some people have practiced for this part of heaven, but God says that we should work now, for the night is coming. We can rest when we get home. Don't get this backward!
There will be service in heaven. Rest doesn't mean that we won't work in heaven. We will. But there will be no dread at the thought of that labor, no physical pain, no working for nothing but a paycheck. We will work for the Master! Revelation 22:3 says, "And His servants shall serve Him."
There will be worship in heaven. We will worship the Lord much of the time and enjoy this the most out of all our activities. Our final home will be the site of a resounding hallelujah chorus that will outshine anything Handel conceived. "After these things, I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power to the Lord our God" (Rev. 19:1).
