Seeing God's Goodness During Trials

DAY 3 OF 4

Like the numerous stars that light up the sky, so are God's promises that bring light to a believer's life, especially during dark times. What's important to remember about God's promises is that they are trustworthy. God is faithful to all of them, and His goodness does not fail.

God demonstrates His goodness in His faithful promises. We see this in Joshua's words as he speaks to all Israel after God gave them rest from their enemies: "Not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed." (Joshua 23:14 NIV).

Here are seven of God's many unfailing promises believers can trust in when life's storms hit.

God promises to always be with you. Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."
God promises you eternal life. John 3:16 (NIV) "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."
God promises to give you refuge and strength: Psalm 46:1 (NIV) "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."
God promises to give you hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
God hears your prayers. Jeremiah 29:12-13 (NIV) "Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart."
God answers your prayers. 1 John 5:14-15 (NIV) "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him."
God promises to provide for you. Luke 12:24-25 (NIV) "Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?"

Hold onto these promises, and whenever you see a rainbow, remember God's promise to Noah never to destroy the earth with a flood again. As He was faithful to Noah, He will be faithful to you.

What promises will you believe as you surrender your needs to God? Will you trust Him and His timing to bring them to fruition? God is patient with you, not slow in keeping His promises because He wants everyone to come to Him for salvation.
