Stay-at-Home Dad (Or Mom): Find Yourself Again

DAY 3 OF 3

Day 3 – Manage stress

Are you at your tipping point? You left your 9-to-5 job and daily commute to embrace a slower pace of life at home and now your stress level is out the roof. Who knew being a parent could be so difficult?

A stay-at-home dad or mom’s life can be stressful, but there are ways you can eliminate or at least lower your stress level. Stop for a moment and identify: What seems overwhelming to you right now?

Is it the piles of laundry? The hours you committed to work remotely? The pressure of getting to the grocery store or even just to take a shower?

Determine the source of your stress and then you can brainstorm ways to make life more manageable. Can you get help with the laundry? Order groceries online and have them delivered? Adjust your work hours?

While you’re at it, look for areas of over-commitment and free yourself from the feeling that you’ve got to prove yourself. Society often measures success by the title you carry or the salary you earn. You may have lost your weekly paycheck, but you don’t have to lose your way.

You’re still you. And you can do this mom (or dad) thing.

Actionable Insight: Recognize spiritual warfare

As you create a God-honoring household, you will discover that it doesn’t come without a fight! Spiritual warfare must be waged for yourself, your child and your household. Identify the strongholds that need to be torn down and recognize the areas that need building and planting. Pray, fight and trust the Lord to send help from his sanctuary.
