Eternal Judgement
“Go to jail! Go directly to jail! Do not pass GO! Do not collect $200!” If you have ever played Monopoly you will be familiar with those words from the Chance and Community Chest cards. With the flip of a card, you are charged, weighed up, and incarcerated. Instantaneous judgment based on pure luck and the fall of a card.
But the game of life is a lot more serious. The judgment of God is not based upon mere chance. It is the sum of your whole life and what you have said, done, or chosen to believe.
Every person can choose to follow God or reject Him, and each decision has consequences and an eternal judgment associated with that decision.
If you choose Christ, your eternal judgment is to be with Him and the Father in the new heavens and earth described at the end of Revelation. There will be no sin, no disease, no death, no devil, and no evil. Rather there will be eternal life, peace, joy, love, and friendship. The scripture says that no man can conceive of what the Lord has awaiting those who choose Him. This is the eternal judgment of the just.
But what about the unjust? They too will be judged by the Lord, but their “reward” for rejecting God and His Christ will be eternal punishment. They will go into the lake of fire to burn with the devil and his demons. Those judged unworthy will be cast away from the presence of the Lord…forever.
As the last of the six foundation teachings, it is important that we understand these things and weigh them up carefully. We cannot be complacent, tardy, or put anything between ourselves and God. That is idolatry and leads to judgment and punishment.
So, seek the Lord and be sure to put Him above ALL things in your life, and receive the promised eternal life as your eternal judgment.
Questions to consider:
- Are you willing to forsake everything in this life to receive the judgment of life?
- Do you seek the ways of God in ALL things?
A prayer point:
- Seek the Lord to help you identify those things in your life that may exclude you from His presence and ask Him how you can be part of the judgment of the just.
One final point...
