Darkness to Light: An Easter Story

DAY 2 OF 7

In Scripture, we read about periods of darkness. When we think of supernatural darkness, there are a couple of instances that come to mind. One of these was during the time when Israel was still in Egypt. They were in bondage. God had sent His servant Moses, and through him, He was going to free His people. One of the final plagues was a darkness over all the land of Egypt that lasted for three days. We read about that in our Scripture passage today.

Does it seem interesting to you that there were three days of darkness that they could feel? Everything that God does is for a reason. There is a picture here of darkness just before the next plague, in which the Passover Lamb was to be killed. The Passover Lamb’s blood would be put above the door post of the house. Anyone within that structure would be protected from the angel of death.

Though darkness fell upon the land for three days, it says in verse twenty-three that the people of God had light in their dwellings. The darkness could not overcome the light of God.

Jesus had many I AM statements and John 8:12 is one of them: I am the light of the world, he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

That is the secret of life. Life would be so dark and so difficult if it was not for the Light of God: Jesus Christ. Those of us who are people of God and have put our trust in Him have received the Light and can now walk in it. We do not have to worry about nor be consumed by this darkness anymore because the Light has overcome it. As a matter of fact, the Bible says there is no sun in Heaven because Jesus is the Light of Heaven. He is the Light of the world.
