Our Strong Tower
"Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel, and His Redeemer, the Lord of Hosts: 'I am the First and I am the Last; besides Me there is no God. Do not fear, nor be afraid; have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses. Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one’” (Isaiah 44: 6, 8).
The Lord of Hosts, Jehovah Sabaoth, tells us, “Do not fear nor be afraid.” What exactly is the Lord of Hosts? The Lord of Hosts is a Strong Tower; a place you can run to when there is nowhere else to go; a safe place. Psalm 46:1 tells us, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
God also says He is a Rock, and that “there is no other Rock.” A rock symbolizes something that is solid, something you can stand on when everything else around you is crumbling or sinking.
Are you at the end of your rope today? Have you tried everything you can think of but nothing is working? Often, that is the problem; we try everything we can think of without seeking His guidance, counsel, protection or direction.
If the currents of life are too strong and pulling you under, turn to the Lord of Hosts, the Strong Tower, the Rock. I can assure you He wants to help. There is no problem too big for God. God wants to be that Strong Tower you run to when you need help. “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust’" (Psalm 91:1-2).
There is an old hymn, “Standing on the Promises” by R. Kelso Carter. The second verse of the hymn goes like this: “Standing on the promises that cannot fail, When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail, By the living Word of God I shall prevail, Standing on the promises of God.” If you need something solid to stand on when everything else is shaking, stand on God’s promises.
Prayer: Lord of Hosts, thank You that You are a Strong Tower I can run to in my time of need. You are “my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” I stand on Your word and on Your promises. There is no God besides You. In Jesus' name, amen.
