Church Without Walls - Church Is Where You Are

DAY 4 OF 5

The real boss of my work is God

We are all shaped by negative and positive experiences from our everyday working lives. We often apply past experiences to new situations. For example, we apply a bad experience with a former boss, to a new boss, or even to God. But what is God like as my boss? What is he like, the divine dream boss?

Jesus says that he is kind and humble of heart, and that his yoke and burden are light for us. So being on the road with Jesus brings ease. The only question is: under whose yoke, burden, or baggage from the past are you walking? Are you slaving away under the demands of men or are you working in God’s lightness? You decide with which yoke, burden, or baggage you go!

Having God as our boss means having a patient and merciful boss who knows and sees us intimately. He will never give us too much and never too little. He knows our gifts and resources. He desires our best. It means to work in peace and tranquillity, not stress. It means to work from an abundance (of wisdom, creativity, strength) rather than from a shortage.

With Him we are allowed to make mistakes instead of having to strive for perfection. He frees us from the pressure of recognition by people because a loving look from the Father is enough. He is just. Under his guidance, it becomes unnecessary to compare ourselves to other colleagues. Instead of pressure to perform, there is a desire to perform. With Him, a work culture filled with creativity and joy prevails. Working under such a boss allows us and our work to flourish.

Prayer, Get Free and Next Step:

Let the Holy Spirit show you where previous experiences have negatively shaped your image of God and then allow God to show you afresh what he is really like as your boss. Forgive people who have hurt you or treated you unfairly in the past.

About this Plan

Church Without Walls - Church Is Where You Are

Work can be the sphere where we proclaim God's glory and where people see in our lives that we are letting God lead us. Work can be the place where we help people and are a light by what we do and how we do it. Sounds simple in theory, however the reality is often different. What can stop us from turning the workplace into a dynamic place of worship?
