Real Hope: Where Is God?Sýnishorn
Where Is God In My Relationship Status?
‘Why are you still single?’ she asked. I had to consciously stop my eyes from rolling and force a smile on my face, as I answered, ‘If I knew, I probably wouldn’t still be single!’ I laughed it off, trying to ignore the pity that flickered across her face, as though being single was a really sad thing.
Sometimes it is sad. Sometimes it’s lonely. Sometimes it’s hard. But, sometimes it’s the best. Sometimes it’s this incredible blessing. Sometimes it’s so awesome I wonder why I’d ever give it up!
In either situation, singleness is neither bad nor good. It just is. What makes it good or bad is the way we talk about it, and our words reveal a lot.
Have you ever noticed the words God uses to talk about you? Words like treasured, child, chosen, free, and loved. What He is doing when He chooses these types of words is ascribing value. He is placing worth. He is looking at something that is seemingly broken and worthless and injecting value into it. We would have no worth apart from the value God ascribes to us.
In the same way, your singleness has worth, if you ascribe such value to it. If you see it as a sacred time, surrender to God’s will for it and speak of it with respect and love. You choose how good or bad this time in your life is. The fruit of your choice will be reflected in your words. What words are you choosing?
