You’ve Got TalentSýnishorn
God empowers us to use our talents
Jesus goes on to say that the master gave the servants the talents “each according to his ability.” That phrase may tend to confuse us. Does it mean the master didn’t think a particular servant was capable enough or qualified enough or good enough and therefore gave him fewer talents? No, the master doesn’t play favorites! The master simply knew the servants and he was aware of how much each servant could handle at a particular time. He knew how a certain sum could possibly be overwhelming. So, to each servant the master gave what he knew was best for them in that season.
When God calls us to a task, He not only entrusts us with the resources for that task, He also equips us for that task. That brings us to the second “E” of this Bible plan:
God EMPOWERS and EMBOLDENS us to use the gifts He has given us.
He doesn’t force us or arm-twist us to use our resources. He is a gentleman God who doesn’t constantly send us lightning bolts from heaven with the memo: ‘Hey, have you used the talent yet?’ But He does equip us to use the gifts He has given us.
God’s Word reminds us that He gives us everything we need for life and godliness. We have all the resources we need to live the abundant life that He has called us to. His resurrection power is at work within each believer. He carries us so we can soar on wings like eagles. He strengthens us so we can run and not grow weary. He lifts us up with His righteous right hand. He enables us to stand on the heights. He comes alongside us so we are never alone as we pursue our calling. Today is He calling you to invest your talent in something that will last for eternity? As it says in Romans 6: 13, “Offer every part of yourself to Him as an instrument of righteousness.” God has prepared good works in advance for us to do. Will you and I walk in them?
Bring it Home
Have you identified the talents and treasures God has given you? Have you identified the opportunities and appointments God has orchestrated for you so you can use those gifts? Do you believe He has given you everything you need to fulfil your unique purpose?
Lean In
Father God, Thank You for blessing me with talents and gifts. I praise You because You have given me everything I need for life and godliness. Help me not to ignore the opportunities You have designed to use my gifts. In Jesus’ name. Amen

About this Plan
The Parable of the Loaned Money - the story of the master distributing talents to his three servants - is perhaps familiar to many of us. But is the narrative really about the servants’ performance? In this Bible Plan, we’ll see that when God gives us talents and resources, He doesn’t look for results or for a return on investment - but for a deeper relationship with His children.
