"A Living Hope"
There aren’t many things in life that we can be absolutely confident in. Every step of our lives—big or small—comes with some degree of uncertainty. Peter recognized the uncertainty of the world. He knew there would be countless trials, moments of despair, and times when circumstances would allow fear and doubt to creep in. However, he was confident that no matter what challenges might arise, God’s promises would never fail. Although we live in an uncertain world and our life stories may include chapters of failure, our faith grants us the certainty of hope. Christ gives us a living hope. It is an active, unshakeable promise of God’s undying love.
There are few things guaranteed. We can’t be assured that we’ll live long and healthy lives. We can’t be certain that those we love will love us in return. No one on this earth can promise that our plans will ever come to be. However, we can build on the firm foundation that God has an imperishable and unfading promise for our lives. It is permanent. It is certain. It is unchanging no matter where our lives lead us or what mistakes we make along the way. With that degree of certainty how could we even begin to let ourselves give in to our fears or doubts?
Reflect
We can live fearlessly in life, confident that God has imperishable, undying, and unfading plans for us.
Respond
- What are your biggest fears? How can the certainty of God’s promises help you face those fears?
- How is God working to show His promises in your life?

About this Plan
2 Timothy 1:7 tells us that “God has not given us a spirit of fear.” A powerful truth, but not one that is easy to walk in. Sometimes it seems like fear is stalking us, just waiting to take control of our lives. We don’t have to live this way. This week-long devotional from Seacoast Church will encourage you to stand firm in the face of fear. Through God’s power and his promises to us, we can learn what it means to be Fearless.
