Trust
Isn’t it crazy how we can trust certain things in life, but not others? I get in an airplane, throw on my headphones, maybe try and grab a little nap, and have no fear whatsoever. I don’t know the pilot. I don’t know if he’s a “good” pilot. I don’t know the weather conditions, and truthfully, I don’t really know where he’s going half the time – but yet I have trust and I can relax.
If only our faith felt that easy! There’s so many times in my personal life where I’ve found myself trusting God for some things, but not others. I trust Him with my salvation, but do I trust Him with my money? I trust Him with my health, but do I trust Him with my marriage?
Proverbs 3:5 says it best, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” Ok great, I got that, let’s strive for that. But how come sometimes I can’t? Well the second part of the verse provides some insight, “And lean not on your own understanding.” Ahhhh, now it becomes a little more clear. I think sometimes our trust in God becomes weak when we think we have the solutions all the time. Where we think that working more, investing more, spending less will help us in our finances, when we give nothing to God. I know that was my story, and an area God is still working on me in.
When we begin to lean on our understanding and our “knowledge,” we stop leaning on God’s. And when we stop leaning on God and trusting God, we find things in our life will begin to fall out of place.
