Every Day with Jesus: Faith for the JourneySýnishorn
Who Is God?
‘For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things.’ Colossians 1:19–20a
It’s impossible to describe God, for God is beyond comprehension. For God can never be reduced to what the human mind can grasp. Scripture states that God has spoken to us in many and various ways, and ultimately he communicated explicitly in his Son, Jesus (Hebrews 1:1-2).
To discover God, we must study the life of Jesus. The incarnation allows us to move beyond descriptions of God to encounter God in Jesus, both divine and human.
From the fall onwards, God intended to restore the broken friendship between Creator and created (Genesis 3:14-15). Jesus was the means chosen to reconcile two opposing forces. One, the consequences of a fallen, fractured world; the other, the fullness of life God had always intended for all of creation. Reconciliation means resolving differences. It makes demands on all parties to the conflict.
I’ve worked as a professional mediator for many years resolving intractable conflicts. It demands an investment of time and will from all involved. Here God enters our time-space world as both human and divine to deal with the breach created by Sin. We can choose how we respond.
We can enjoy understanding our salvation by participating in a lifetime process of sanctification; watching God weave his own characteristics into us. Our conversion provides a catalyst for a complete change of heart and mind. We must apply this change to our decision-making and seek to live our lives centered around the Word of God. In this way we can resist the temptation to live our own way and learn to walk in God’s way.
Living every day with Jesus is about continually and consciously moving away from darkness and further into his Light.
Something to Consider: How would you describe your most recent encounter with Jesus?
An Action to take: Decide to take time to draw closer to Jesus and God’s desire to empower you to live life as he intended.
A Prayer to make: ‘Lord, help me to seek you in each daily experience and learn to live in the light of your grace.’
