Need Your Love
1 John 4:9-12 – “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”
“Jesus you’re more than enough for me, I don’t need anything else, I need Your love, I need Your love.” – Need Your Love, Young & Free.
We are all searching. We are all searching for fulfillment, searching for completion, searching for happiness, searching for anything that will make us feel good — like ‘likes’ on Instagram or binging a TV show. Often in our searching we can become involved in behaviour and attitudes that are damaging not only to ourselves and others but also to our relationship with God (Galatians 5:17). And any attempt to fulfil our lives apart from God will leave us empty and unsatisfied. Then we are back to searching again.
However, when we fill our lives with God’s love and rely on that love, we become truly fulfilled. The reality is, God was the one who found us first and He knows what we need before we even begin our search. God’s love is the only thing that can fill us and satisfy us completely.
1 John 4:10 defines what love is for us: that He (God) sent His Son to pay the price for our sins. We need God’s love because we are not perfect and God’s love rescues us from our imperfection and transforms us to become more like him. God’s love brings us to completion and we can end our searching knowing that we will be satisfied in God’s love.
Self-reflection:
1. Have I allowed God’s love to fill me today?
2. Have there been times when I have taken God’s love for granted?
3. How am I going to rely on God’s love today?
