You Always Win
Have you ever felt completely overwhelmed or discouraged? Sometimes it feels like nothing is going right. The good news for us as followers of Jesus is that we don’t have to fight our own battles in our own strength. Read the truth from God’s Word in the song lyrics below:
You make me strong
You make me courageous
I won’t be afraid
I won’t be discouraged
You are my God
Always right beside me
And I know You’re fighting for me once again
Every battle that You fight is a battle You will win
There’s a story in the Old Testament about a young leader named Joshua. He led during the time that God’s chosen people, the Israelites, were making their way to the Promised Land. After struggling for 40 years in the desert, they finally arrived on the edge of the Promised Land. The spies who went into the land brought back an unfavorable report:
“…The land we traveled through and explored will devour anyone who goes to live there. All the people we saw were huge. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!” (Numbers 13:32-33 NLT)
This report increased the already growing doubt and discouragement within the Israelites, and they feared what was in front of them. Yet, God had continually demonstrated that He was with them when He parted the Red Sea (Exodus 14:16,) provided them with food (Exodus 16:4,) and supplied them with water from a rock (Exodus 17:6.) Yet, they forgot these things and let fear block their memory of God’s provision.
God told Joshua that He was giving them the land that He had promised, and Joshua believed God. All he had to do was take a step of faith into a battle that God had already won. It wasn’t Joshua’s strength and skill that would get the victory, it was the presence and power of their great God.
We often fall into the same frame of mind, don’t we? When troubles arise, it’s easier to focus on the problem in front of us rather than remember God’s faithfulness. When obstacles are present and they appear to be increasing in size, let’s remind ourselves of God’s faithfulness. There’s no battle that He cannot win.
