Pray
Prayer is the most important part of building a personal relationship with God. When I was growing up, there were times when I looked at prayer as if it was ritualistic. I would pray, “Lord, forgive me for my sins, protect my family, and protect me. Amen.” And I thought as long as I prayed that every day, I would be fine with God. As I grew older, I learned how essential it was to talk to God about every area of my life. Not just the times I needed help or had done wrong, but even the small things, like helping me to be a light when I go to the grocery store or helping me stay consistent in the gym.
Prayer is essential and it helps you to be better. When you look at the relationships you have throughout life, whether it be with a boyfriend/girlfriend or a family member, communication makes or breaks a relationship. Prayer is a way to not only discover who God is, but also a way to discover yourself. I think we often take for granted the gift of being able to speak with God at any time.
Praying in tongues has also become a very essential part of my life. Sometimes I don’t have the words to say and the Spirit will usher in and give me the gift of tongues; through that I know the Spirit is praying for me and going way past what I may be able to see or say in that moment. (Romans 8:26-27).
I hope that you step out of the norm over these next few days and challenge your prayer life, talk to God about EVERY area of your life, EVERY day, ask him to reveal himself to you in new ways, ask him to deliver you, talk to him about your desires, the good and the bad. Make prayer an essential part of your life.
“When you pray, don't be like those show-offs who love to stand up and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners. They do this just to look good. I can assure you that they already have their reward. When you pray, go into a room alone and close the door. Pray to your Father in private. He knows what is done in private and will reward you. When you pray, don't talk on and on as people do who don't know God. They think God likes to hear long prayers. Don't be like them. Your Father knows what you need even before you ask. You should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, help us to honor your name. Come and set up your kingdom, so that everyone on earth will obey you, as you are obeyed in heaven.”
