Love God Greatly: Jesus Our EverythingSýnishorn
The author of Hebrews offered another warning to his audience: do not have a hardened, unbelieving heart. The generation of Israelites who were carried out of slavery in Egypt by God’s mighty hand hardened their hearts because of unbelief. They refused to believe God would do what He said He would do. Because of their unbelief, no one in that generation entered the promised land other than Joshua and Caleb.
The author of Hebrews reminded his audience that they, too, were at risk of falling away from God because of hardened, unbelieving hearts. Today, we are also susceptible to unbelief that can lead us to forsake Christ. We must encourage one another, continually reminding each other of God’s faithfulness, both in our lives and in the past.
We are partners with Christ when we have accepted His gift of salvation. We need to persevere so we may enter His rest. For us, this is eternity with Him. Unbelief can easily creep in, but by remaining in Christian community and by faithfully obeying God’s commands we will persevere until the end. And, what is more, our faithfulness is not even in our own hands. We can rest in the confidence that Christ has secured us for eternity with Him when we place our faith in Him.
Lord Jesus, keep me from having a hardened heart to sin. I know my salvation is secure in You and nothing can take me away from You. Help me to remain sensitive to Your Word, Your voice, and Your presence. I need You each and every day. Amen.
