Love, Family and Music with Rodney JerkinsSýnishorn
Music
As a kid, I would watch how much music mattered to people. I could see how music could set the atmosphere for anything: an elevator ride, an amusement park, a sports event, and--most importantly--a church service, just before the preacher would deliver a sermon.
Music is intended to evoke emotion. Some studies show music evokes 13 different emotions. Music, though, is ultimately a form of worship that should be given to God.
Ephesians 5:19 says ... address(ing) one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.
When I think of music, I think about David, the little shepherd boy. As a young boy, he knew how to get into the presence of the Lord. Even through his brokenness, even through his sin, David knew how to chase God's heart through his worship.
David was an intense worshiper. I can imagine young David preparing for battle. No, not by picking up rocks and throwing them at a target to improve his percentage for hits and misses; but I imagine him preparing by sitting alone in a quiet place with his heart and mind set on Jesus. I can see him singing songs or worship, getting to a place where he hears God so clearly. David hears God say, "go in my name and do not fear for I will be with you!" Even when David prepared for battle, he went to a quiet place to worship.
You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. Psalm 63:1-5
David allowed his worship to usher him into prayer.
You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You. Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; And give heed to the voice of my supplications! Psalm 86:5-6
Music is a gift from God to us, for us to give back to Him, so that He can get the glory.
About this Plan
“With all that’s going on in our world, I felt it was time to give back by going back to my gospel roots. The world is in a place of chaos, confusion, and fear, but with God on our side, directing our lives, this too shall pass. In these times of social distancing, I believe through God, Love, Family, and Music we can still come together.” - Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins
