Day Five
Scripture: “Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous ones; And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.” (Psalms 32:11 NASB)
Thought: Gladness! Joy! Rejoicing! Shouting words of joy! Can you not feel the passion and exuberance in this passage? Look closely and you will read these things in this passage. Therefore, the question begs to be asked. We read what is happening. But, why and how can this be?
Application: To answer the question above we must read the opening words of Psalms 32, and then we will understand the why and how:
What happiness for those whose guilt has been forgiven! What joys when sins are covered over! What relief for those who have confessed their sins and God has cleared their record. There was a time when I wouldn’t admit what a sinner I was. But my dishonesty made me miserable and filled my days with frustration. All day and all night your hand was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water on a sunny day until I finally admitted all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide them. I said to myself, “I will confess them to the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. (Psalms 32:1-5 TLB)
What do we discover? We discover that David recognizes the joyful blessing of being forgiven of all his transgressions. God ‘s forgiveness is unlike anything that is on earth. It is God’s thorough forgiveness and the relief David feels that begins a song in his heart and rises up to lead a chorus of praise and thanksgiving, as he leads the people to worship. This can be true for you, as well.
Are you struggling with issues that need His forgiveness? It awaits you. You can be forgiven anything that you have done against God, if you will confess your sin and receive His forgiveness. What will be the result of this transaction with God? You just read about it with David. The deep washing and regeneration of your ship-wrecked soul can make you new and fresh, and can relaunch your life. You can have a “do-over” with God. He wants this for you. But, it requires your repentance, which means to turn from your sin, your request for His forgiveness, and then for you to embrace this forgiveness. It can be yours. If you are aware of anything that needs God’s forgiveness, do your transaction with Him, for you do not need to allow the stain of sin to remain over your life.
Response: As a Christian you have been made right with God, by the redemption Christ gave you. If you have not taken His provision through Jesus Christ, then you have no relationship with God. This must be done before anything else. As a Christian your relationship is secure, even if you sin. However, if you have unconfessed sin in your life, the intimate fellowship you could enjoy with Him will be hindered. If God has revealed sin in your life that is unconfessed and unforgiven, then clean it up with His provision. Allow God’s forgiveness to make a deep dive into your heart, and then allow it to erupt into thanksgiving and praise. If you do this, it will be good for your soul, and you will understand what was making David sing like he did.
