Forgive, Grow And Find God's Path for YouSýnishorn
The Holy Spirit in Us
What if Jesus came to each of our homes today for a visit, and we told him we wanted to grow? What would we expect him to do? Heal us? Teach us? Challenge us? Give us new talents? We can come up with many things we would want him to do. We can think of a number of things we might expect of him, but one of the last things we would expect him to say is, “Oh, you want to grow? Well, if that is what you want, I will have to leave. See you later.” Wouldn’t this be a strange way for Jesus to produce growth in us? But this is exactly what Jesus did. John 16 records Jesus’ words: “Very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you” (John 16:7).
For reasons we do not fully understand, Jesus returned to heaven to work on us from there; he also sent the Holy Spirit to be with us and produce the growth and change we need. He said that this is better than being here himself. Therefore, we must acknowledge that the Holy Spirit is an incredible gift from God. He is always with us and promises to do many things for us, in us and through us. Our job is to ask and then yield to his will. The life of faith is a life of dependency on the Spirit.
