Unexpected Homeschooler

DAY 1 OF 5

What am I doing?

Maybe you chose this Bible plan because you’ve found yourself in a place and position you never dreamed would happen. Maybe you even vowed that you would never home educate! But here you are, thrust into making a hard choice, far outside your comfort zone.

Many years ago my husband and I made a personal choice to home educate our children. But your decision may be from having to choose from two very difficult options: either teaching your children yourself, or putting them into an unknown educational situation where the “rules” may change day to day. Either way, there is great personal sacrifice to be made and I’m guessing you have tons of questions about what this may look like for you and your family.

How will I ever be able to do this? I’m not a teacher!

Won’t my children suffer from a lack of peer socialization?

Is my life over?

On the other side of all these questions and so many more, and after 33 years of home educating our seven children all the way through high school, I hope this plan will answer a few of your questions and possibly assuage some of your greatest fears over this decision.

In this plan we will discuss your relationship with Jesus, the relationship you have with your kiddos and their relationship to each other, and how you can possibly make it through this unexpected circumstance. I hope you discover answers to the above questions and many others as you read through the next five days and press into Jesus during this unprecedented time.

No matter the place you find yourself today, no matter how many questions or fears you may have, I want you first to know that you don’t have to have it all figured out. Jesus knows what’s ahead for you and your kids and is more than enough for this overwhelming situation. He sees you and cares and His hand is open wide with abundant, never ending grace—more than enough to cover your fears and weaknesses for today and tomorrow. Will you take a deep breath, step near and bravely trust Him to lead you as you move forward into this new territory? He’s already gone before you to prepare the way!

Oh Father, how did I ever get to the place I’m choosing to even read this plan? How will I ever do this impossible job? I can’t even say it’s something I want to do. I’m asking You for courage and bravery to meet this decision with Your grace, knowing that somehow, some way, You will come through for me, for us. I thank You that You see me and I believe You are with me. Please remind me of this truth many times today and in the days to come. I know I will need it.
