Daily Bible Reading - August 2020 God's Life-Giving Word of Forgiveness and MercySýnishorn
August 12
Introduction
Today’s reading includes harsh words because of the people’s evil deeds. The people have rebelled against God and will be punished.
Scripture Reading
Hosea 7:3-16
Today’s Key Verse: Hosea 7:13b
[The LORD says:] “I wanted to save them, but their worship of me was false.”
Reflect
Why are the people described as being “like a half-baked loaf of bread” (verse 8) or “like a silly pigeon” (verse 11)? How are the people to be punished? Why did the people keep on turning away from God? Are there times when you have not put God first in your life?
Pray
Holy God, you are the one true God and the God of my salvation. Keep me strong in faith and in the secure knowledge of your love and mercy. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those who worship false gods
Tomorrow’s Reading
Hosea 9:17—10:15: Hosea declares that the people will suffer consequences because of their sinfulness.
