[Certainty In The Uncertainty] Staying Still In Times Of Crisis Sýnishorn
God Is Our Refuge, Strength, And Our Present Help
Psalm 46:1–3 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”
Can you imagine the earth and all of God’s creation becoming uncreated? This passage of the Scriptures feels like that, with the mountains falling into the sea, earthquakes, and things that seem to go backward. We are living in times of uncertainty. There are so many scary things happening in our world right now. We have so many diseases, pandemics, natural disasters, plagues, crises; these are stressful times for humankind. What we thought was certain last year, this year may seem impossible to achieve. A lot of things change from one year to the next: money, health, society, governments, life as we know it—everything can change.
In the Bible, we discover the truth that we are not alone. This is something that will never change. The Psalmist says that God is our Refuge and Strength, our Help in times of trouble. Those are things we can trust. God as Refuge. God as Strength. God as Help. When we are living in times of uncertainty, we need to find something we can really trust and rely on. Something that is certain. That is what God is to us—He is our Certainty in times of uncertainty.
God is our Refuge. When we take refuge in something physical, we are trusting it will make us feel safe and secure. When we take refuge in God, we are offering that trust to Him instead. We connect with Him in a way that makes us feel safe and secure. God is also our Strength. He is our Strength when our patience is weak. There are times in life when we feel very weak and tired, both physically and emotionally. We experience trauma through the crisis we are going through as human beings today. We think about it all the time. We worry about it all the time. Things are changing all the time. And that can be really traumatic and stressful; it can affect our family, relationships, jobs, and daily lives. We may become weak trying to figure out how to keep things together. That is why we need the strength of Jesus Christ.
God is also our present Help in times of need. He is our Help for peace, perfection, and purpose. Are we looking for help in the news or are we looking for help on our knees, praying to the Lord, and spending time in His presence?
He is our Refuge, our Strength, and ever-present Help. In Him, we find what we need to be certain in these crazy times of uncertainty.

About this Plan
God is going to see us through. Let's be people of prayer. Let’s let God do something great in us and through us. In these days of staying at home, be still, and know that He is God. He will be exalted among the nations. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
