Tackling Disappointment

DAY 1 OF 5

God is Sovereign Over Every Situation

This morning I woke up to an email from a leading website to which I’d submitted an article for publication. The editor was very polite but also very certain that my article didn’t make the cut. My heart plummeted to the ground like an elevator headed to the basement at breakneck speed. “But.. but…but, God,” I sputtered. I had an excellent track record with this website and my previous articles with them had gone viral. I had worked so hard. I had committed the article in prayer. I was sure they would accept the piece.

And then the door shut in my face.

While this is just a little example, setbacks seem to pop up like a whack-a-mole game at an arcade. Just when you manage to deal with one, another two or three jump out of nowhere.

Maybe things didn’t work out with a relationship you had counted on or a promotion you were sure was coming to you or admission to the university of your dreams. You had cherished the plan for weeks, months, even years. And then the dream came crashing down like a tower of Jenga blocks, clattering to the floor in a giant mess. In the time of the coronavirus pandemic, our disappointments are more heightened, the mess even bigger because of illness, job loss, and anxiety.

While our best-laid plans waver, God’s plans never falter. He is unchanging. He is all powerful. He is on the throne.

Today, as you deal with disappointment, as your heart feels like it’s on a really fast roller coaster headed for a freefall, remember this truth: God is sovereign over every situation. He is in control of your life. Yes, you may face setbacks. But no boss, no editor, no admissions committee, no government authority, no significant other, not even you can thwart His plans.

About this Plan

Tackling Disappointment

We’ve all been there. The closed door. The broken relationship. The rejection. The loss. None of us are immune to disappointment. But we don’t have to dwell in it. In this Bible Plan we’ll look at truths from Scripture that will help us deal with disappointment and walk in the fullness of life that Jesus promises.
