Real Hope: Suffering & Trials

DAY 3 OF 5

MOUNTAINS OF PERSPECTIVE

Not long ago, my friends and I headed to the Snowy Mountains to climb Kosciusko, Australia’s highest mountain. Well, I admit at around 2,200 meters, it’s not very high. My Swiss friends call it a hill.

But still, I love climbing mountains. There’s something about being at a summit and looking across those vast panoramas that give you a perspective you can’t get in the valley. Those boulders in the path look smaller than they did on the way up. That far-off horizon looks a lot closer from the top. That’s why I love it so much. It gives you a sort of breathing space above the mundane.

It’s also the same kind of perspective God has for our lives. With mountaintop clarity, He sees beyond the hassles of today – and further than the bushes obstructing our path. When the stuff of life is clouding your vision, the best thing to do is ask God for His perspective. He’s always got hope for a better horizon.
