Choosing a Fast for You

DAY 4 OF 4

Ask Yourself How Much?

  • How much do I desire God?
  • How much do I desire to see the work of God in my heart?
  • How much do I believe that God is the only one who truly satisfies?
  • How much do I believe that only He can accomplish anything of eternal value?

Pray before you answer the questions above. Be honest with the Lord when you respond. Remember, when we confess our sins, He is able and faithful to forgive our sins!

After you have answered the questions, express your desires and beliefs by planning to fast within the next week or so. As you fast and pray, ask for an increased desire for Him. Ask for a decreased desire for the world. Give your heart and your soul and your mind and your strength to Him by fasting.

Be careful not to let yourself take any credit. May God alone be exalted in your heart and your life through this fast.

Ultimately, fasting is truly feasting. Jesus is our true food.

Remember this, or you will lose the focus of the fast. Feast fully upon Him and rejoice.

Go! You are not alone. The Lord is with you!

PRAYER

O Lord, have mercy on me. Strengthen my union with Christ and deepen my intimacy with Him. Grant me the grace I need to faithfully keep the fast that I choose. May Christ be glorified in me!

In Jesus' name, I pray,

Amen.
