The "Real Deal"
Swayze Waters
Ready:
“And you should imitate me as I imitate Christ.” 1 Corinthians 11:1
Set:
In the late 1800’s, C.T. Studd was the top Cricket player in Britain. He went on
to lead a movement that sent thousands to the mission field in China, India and Africa. How did this incredible athlete respond to the gospel in such a way that his influence continues to this day?
After growing up hearing the gospel his whole life, Studd went all in on following Jesus during his college years. Why then? A friend of his father’s stayed for a period of time with his family in their home. Studd described him as a “real-life, play-the-game Christian.” It was being around what I like to call “the real deal” that made all the difference. His father’s friend was imitating Christ. This gave C.T. an opportunity not just to hear the gospel, but to see a Christian “playing the game” in every aspect of his public and private life.
Studd made a tremendous Kingdom impact with his life, and you can too. You can lead a movement that sends thousands to the mission field! God will use you to turn sports fields into mission fields as you live out your faith as a competitor for Christ. This gives others the opportunity to have the same transformational experience of C.T. Studd. How? Give your life to Jesus, and start following Him! He will turn you into a “real life, play-the-game Christian.” It’s time to step on the field, and start playing the game!
Go:
1. Am I the “real deal”? (Start with following Jesus.)
2. What is keeping me from “playing the game” and influencing others to Jesus?
3. Name one person in your life that is the “real deal.” How does being around them impact you?
Workout:
- 1 Timothy 4:12
- Romans 12:1
Overtime:
"Father, transform my life and make me the “real deal.” Give me the courage to step out and start playing the game. Use me on my team to show others the hope of Jesus! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen."
