Choosing Faith Over FearSýnishorn
Day 3: Fear Kills
This title is pretty heavy right? Fear kills. I know what you’re thinking, how can fear kill?! If I keep fear near and play it safe, how can I ever put myself in a situation where I could be hurt? If you truly believe that last sentence, fear has already lied to you, fear has already stolen from you, and now you’re on the path to letting fear kill. If we look in Scripture, we see someone else who is called the father of lies. We read about someone who has also come to steal, kill, and destroy. He’s called the thief, the evil one, the devil, or Satan.
Fear kills when we let it hang around long enough to take over our life. One thing that is always on my mind is when I get to the end of my life and look back, what will I regret not doing because of fear? What opportunities will I let fear kill? In John 10:10 after Jesus describes the devil’s intentions, he goes on to say, “I have come so that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
Do you want to live an abundant life, full of God’s promises and opportunity or do you want to live a life where fear dictates every step you take? We’re presented with opportunity every single day. I pray that you choose life, push back fear, and trust God to guide every footstep on your path to his calling on your life.
Focus: Today, I want you to take some time to meditate in prayer. Picture yourself at the end of your life and think about what you may regret not doing that you can still do now. If you’re not serving at your local church but you’ve always wanted to, the best time to start was yesterday, but the next best time is today! If you want to grow closer to God, you don’t need to do anything except to come to him as you are. I promise that after a few weeks of daily discipline, that discipline of prayer will turn into a daily desire to spend time with your Creator.
