Strengthened by moving both closer and apart. Babies love “peek-a-boo” because the separation doesn’t last. Sometimes we think God is gone, too far away or asleep in our boat. Just as we learn to walk by a process of holding a hand and letting it go, we develop character through alternating times of being close with times of doing things on our own. Didn’t Jesus call disciples and then send them out, meet with them then go to the mountain, send them in a boat then follow them, spend time on earth then go to prepare a place where we cannot yet go? Could God’s peek-a-boo ways be building a stronger bond with us?
