Being Missional in Isolation

DAY 2 OF 6

GOD HAS ALREADY PREPARED PEOPLE!

Have you ever thought of your relationships as something you have a responsibility for? A “List of 90” and a corresponding prayer calendar are simple tools to help you be more responsible with your relationships.

God has already given us the relationships we need to “go and make disciples.” They are our family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and classmates — people we’ve known all our lives or maybe just met. As we see in the Parable of the Sower, some of these people may be 30, 60, or even 100-fold fruit-bearers!

Being good stewards of the people God has already put in our lives is a great first step in multiplying disciples. And it can start with the simple step of making a list.

Today, take 30 minutes to make a list of 90 people you interact with on a weekly basis. Go through your mind and think about classmates, co-workers, family, friends, the mail carrier, everyone with whom you interact.

On each line, next to their name, mark that person’s spiritual status as either, “Disciple” [someone you believe is already a follower of Jesus], “Unbeliever” [someone you believe is not a follower of Jesus], or “Unknown.”

Now, divide these people on a calendar (ex: #1, 31, 61 will be the first day of the month, #2, 32, 62 will be the second day, and so on and so forth).

Each day, make it a point to PRAY over the people who are assigned to that day and then to reach out to them. You can do this on the phone or over text.

If they are believers, encourage them with what God is teaching you. If they do not yet follow Jesus, let them know you are praying for them today and ask them if they have any prayer requests. Text them with a scripture that you read that day, and just let them know that you were thinking about them. If you don’t know where the person stands with God, this is a great way to figure that out!

You will be amazed at how God will work through your prayer calendar!

DAILY DISCOVERY QUESTIONS FOR JOURNALING OR DISCUSSION:

  • What does this teach me about God the Father, God the Son, or God the Holy Spirit?
  • What does this teach me about myself and other people?
  • What does this teach me about making disciples?
  • How will I obey this lesson personally?
  • Who can I share these truths with today?

About this Plan

Being Missional in Isolation

In times of isolation, you may be tempted to think that there is nothing that you can do to make disciples, but the Apostle Paul, who wrote about half of the New Testament, did some of his best work from prison! The books of Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon were all written from a place of isolation. Even from isolation you can make disciples.
