Moving Beyond Where I Am Stuck

DAY 1 OF 5

DAY ONE: God is beyond.

It can sometimes feel intimidating to consider how much God is capable of doing for us. Even if we already have big dreams, Ephesians 3:20 blows them out of the water with the statement that God can do “immeasurably more” than anything we could ever dream up. In John 14, Jesus explains to His disciples that whoever believes in Him will do the same works He has done and even greater things. If we take a moment to recall the works He did – opening blind eyes, multiplying food to feed large crowds, healing the sick and raising the dead, just to name a few – it truly is mind-boggling to think about what we could do that would be considered greater. And yet, this is what we are offered: a life that moves beyond into “immeasurably more” and “greater things.”

The good news is that we aren’t going it alone. In fact, Jesus repeats Himself as He continues His statement in John 14 by saying whatever we ask in His name is what He will do. His name is what gives us the power and ability to receive whatever it is we ask for. In Corinthians 2, when faced with the truth that what God has prepared for us is “what no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived,” we are also told that those things are actually revealed to us by His Spirit.

God has the ability to take us beyond anything we could possibly imagine, but He doesn’t just do it for us. He works with us to make it happen. This partnership with Him requires our participation, and often, in order to go beyond and access immeasurably more, we must allow Him to work in us and let go of the things that are holding us back.

What kinds of things are you praying for? How might God be answering your prayers by highlighting other things in your life that are hindering your progress in going beyond?
