Day 5: Everlasting Joy
Psalm 30:11-12
You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you forever.
There are times in our lives where we must declare not what we feel, but what we know.
As believers, we can hold the space of suffering differently than the world does. Our understanding of reality is different. We know we are not alone. We have the promise of eternity and with every moment that passes, it is rushing at us.
I was in such a place of despair when I wrote down the words, “You turned my mourning into dancing, you turned my darkness into a brighter day. You filled me up with an everlasting joy.” It really was a dark place, filled with fear and anxiety. I was worried about the future and it was crippling my peace of mind and ability to be present. I felt so far from hope. But still, I sang.
Worship doesn’t always make sense. It’s easy to worship when the skies are clear and the sun is shining, but when the storm clouds haunt us, and the lightning distracts, it’s hard to see anything else. But it’s in these moments that worship is so powerful. It was in such a moment, I realized that I was not beyond the reach of Jesus.
Because I know Jesus, I can choose to speak things that are not as though they are (Romans 4:17). I can declare a different reality. Foolish? In the worlds eyes, yes! But in the kingdom, where the ultimate truth of our freedom has already been established, it is the most real thing we can do. Out of your pain, out of your despair — stand up and declare the opposite reality.
And watch as your wailing turns to dancing.
