Loving God Big
When asked what the greatest commandment was, "Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" Matt 22:37-39 NIV
What would our lives look like if we loved God in the manner that Matthew 22:37 encourages us to do? What would change in our lives? What impact would it have on our lives and those around us?
I would have to say that if we were loving God to this depth, things would radically change in our world.
Years after my Great-grandma West passed I read the following in her Bible, “It is better to read only one verse a day and do what that verse encourages us to do than to read for hours and do nothing.”
Hebrews 4:12 NIV tells us, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” We need to apply the word of God to our lives.
In James 1:22, it tells us to be doers of the word. I Corinthians 11:1 says we are to be imitators of God. This is all based on the choices we make every day of our lives.
Over the next few days we’ll unpack Matt 22:37-39. We will discover what our heart, soul, and mind are, according to the word. We will find ways to implement this verse in our lives. I’m glad you joined me on this journey of discovery as we dig deeper into the word.
To get more out of this devotional write out Matthew 22:37-39 on a 3x5 card and post it where you can see it daily. Throughout the day read and meditate on this verse.
