The Luke Project Vol 1- The Gospel in Song

DAY 4 OF 13

Mary Visits Elizabeth 1:39-45

If you’re a mom, you probably remember those kicks, jabs, and pokes of your little one in utero. If not, maybe you’ve seen a pregnant belly dancing all by itself! There’s an entirely separate being, in control of his/her own motions in there. In this section we get to see a little fetus dancing with the joy of the Holy Spirit!

Soon after Gabriel tells Mary about her holy Child, she quickly goes on a trip to see her relative Elizabeth. She already knows Elizabeth is pregnant and has many things to discuss with her. Mary may also be considering laying low for awhile and helping care for her much older, pregnant relative.

Mary enters the house and greets Elizabeth. Mary says nothing else before Elizabeth is filled with the Holy Spirit and made aware of the Holy Child. Since Mary has told no one what has happened yet, they both witness the Holy Spirit at work! John the Baptist leaps in the womb at the sound of Mary’s voice. Jesus is being praised for the first time on earth by another fetus! This gives me chills!

Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, starts praising Jesus as well. “Blessed is the fruit of your womb!” Elizabeth seems humbled by the “mother of my Lord” coming and visiting her! She goes on to tell Mary all about John leaping with joy at the sound of her voice and commends her for believing God would fulfill what He spoke to her.

This day must have been reassuring to Mary.  Elizabeth spoke of things that Mary hadn’t told anyone yet. The baby in Elizabeth’s formerly barren womb leaped with joy at her entrance. Elizabeth praised her and her Child, calling them blessed. Elizabeth called Mary the mother of her Lord.

Mary had the weightiest revelation and likely needed this reassurance quite a bit. She would have a difficult road ahead, but God was already encouraging her and giving her strength to face whatever would come. Isn’t it beautiful that God doesn’t leave us on our own, but always gives us exactly what we need for each moment? He walks ahead of us, guiding us if we’re willing. Trust and follow Him today and He will never let you down!

About this Plan

The Luke Project Vol 1- The Gospel in Song

Committing scripture to memory can be difficult. Singing along with a song isn’t. It’s with this idea, songwriter Kacey Walkingstick has written the Gospel of Luke into song, word for word. This study will focus on chapters 1-3 and cover the Christmas story. Read and hum along to the story of Jesus. You may have heard the Gospel, yet you’ve never heard it like this!
