Forgive YourselfSýnishorn
NO CONDEMNATION
Everywhere I go, I meet people who feel like they can’t forgive themselves. And I get it. But forgiveness is vital to living a life of peace, freedom, and power. And that includes forgiving yourself.
The devil would love to keep you in bondage to your past sins. If he can get you to keep thinking about what you’ve done — feeling guilty and unworthy in the face of your trespass — then he’s got you. When you’re playing your guilt and your sin on a loop in your head, you aren’t going to be praying any great faith prayers, or walking out God’s plan for your life, or helping anyone else.
Here’s the deal: No one's perfect. Every single person has blown it at some point — big time. So are you stuck here, destined to pay for your mistake forever? You may have heard that old saying, “You made this bed, now you have to lie in it.” But that’s not in the Bible! Nowhere does God say, “Too bad you made that wrong decision — now you’re disqualified; it’s over for you.”
Instead, Romans 8:1 says there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus and in Ephesians 2:4 that God is rich in mercy and loves you greatly!
If you are a Christian, then God has forgiven you. It’s that simple. You can’t earn or deserve this forgiveness. You received it when you received Christ as your Savior. Your forgiveness is already a done deal, not based on what you’ve done or haven’t done, but based on what Jesus did for you.
Second Corinthians 5:19 says, “It was God [personally present] in Christ, reconciling and restoring the world to favor with Himself, not counting up and holding against [men] their trespasses [but cancelling them], and committing to us the message of reconciliation (of the restoration to favor)” (AMPC). God isn’t mad at you. He’s already forgiven. It’s up to you to believe that and accept the restored relationship He’s offering.
You can rest assured that forgiving you was God's idea. Now it’s up to you to believe that he’s already done it, thank him for it, and forgive yourself. Jesus Christ already paid the price for all of your sins, and God is no longer holding any sin against you! You have been forgiven.
About this Plan
You (just like everyone else) have seen your failures and sins up close – and that can make it hard to forgive yourself. Maybe you knew better, but you goofed up anyway. Maybe you believe there’s some sort of lifelong penance you must pay. But there’s not. Let these 6 lessons show how you’ve already been forgiven in Christ, and give you the faith to forgive yourself and move forward.
