Parenting Wins at Christmas Time

DAY 6 OF 6

DAY SIX - TEACH KIDS TO WRITE THANK YOU NOTES

Sending thank-you notes can help teach your child gratitude and proper manners. The key to success starts at a young age, as soon as they can verbalize their thanks. Then they’ll form a habit of thanking people. First Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God…”

Writing thank-you notes can also help improve your child’s writing and critical thinking skills. And let’s face it, any gift-giver is more likely to want to give again to someone who gratefully receives and acknowledges their gift.

Here are 5 tips:

One - Begin by teaching children to say “thank you” when someone does something nice for them or gives them a gift.

Two - Even if they’re only 3 years old and can't write yet, you can write the note then ask them to scribble or color something on there and sign their name.

Three - Make sure your child includes something about the gift in the note or letter if possible, making it personal.

Four - Purchase fun, colorful note cards and envelopes for your children to use. Or provide them with crayons or colored pencils to make them fun!

Five - Send an electronic card or thank you message if desired. Twenty years ago, it had to be a handwritten note, but in today’s day and age, we can get creative. Let your child select an animated e-card. Not only do e-cards contain colorful graphics that are fun for kids, but they also are easily accessible online.
