ADVANCE: A Revival DevotionalSýnishorn
Advance In Devotion
In any relationship, it depends on both participants to determine the depth of the relationship. In our relationship with God, we know that He is longing for an intimate relationship with each of us. He came to this world and died for us so we can have this kind of relationship.
God has done His part, now how about you? How deep do you want to go with your relationship with God? How much are you willing to invest to have an intimate friendship with God? Obviously, the decision to advance is in your hands.
Having a devotional time is about moments where you can talk to God and hear Him speak to you. In Mark we see Jesus intentionally setting time apart to meet with God. Mark 1:35 (NIV) says this: “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place where He prayed.” Jesus was intentional about spending time with God. When we spend time getting to know someone, building a relationship with them, we gradually open our hearts to them. As our heart opens to them, our love grows for them. As our love grows for God, we move from having a time of devotion to living a LIFE of devotion.
It is often said that God will meet us where we are, which is completely true. But beyond the meeting, where do you want to take your relationship with God? Do you want to take it to a place of trust and security in His love for you? When you decide to advance in living a life devoted to God, your soul will develop a thirst for Him because you have tasted His goodness and know He is essential for life. Ultimately, the choice to advance is yours.
Action Questions:
Do you have a time regularly set aside to meet with God?
Do you have a regular place where you meet with God?
What specific action will you take to value your devotion to God more this week?
Prayer: “Oh God, I want to put my relationship with you as a priority in my life. As I choose to know you more, may I experience more of your love and goodness and help me to hear your voice ever more clearly. Amen.”
