Flourish In Christ: 7-Day Devotional

DAY 3 OF 7

Consider the thoughts of the disciples when Jesus called, “Come follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” The disciples stopped what they were doing and followed Jesus. Their season as traditional fishermen would change, along with everything else in their lives. The disciples gave up the things they knew, and understood, and learned to walk in the will of God. This three-year season was filled with ups and downs, but following Jesus became the primary purpose of their lives.

Have you stopped what you are doing to follow Jesus?

Nothing has changed in the last two thousand years. Jesus continues to call, “Stop, I am calling you to follow my plan for your life, come be fishers of people.” Stopping for Jesus can mean, stop watching television, stop spending so much time on Facebook, stop trying so hard to keep up with others, and just stop. Be alone with God so you can flourish in Him. God has something important for you, but we must stop and listen.

God has been speaking to my heart for a few months, “Stop doing what you are doing and follow me.” Even after hearing, I didn’t know how to stop. I reasoned that everything I was doing was for Him and His glory. God is so patient with us! One thing I have learned through this is to stop, listen, pay attention, and obey, period!

No matter the season you are in right now, may you take time to reflect and meditate on God’s Word. I took a few weeks away from my evening classes so I could spend more time going deep with God; listening to His voice and obeying. It was a time when I began to flourish in my walk with God; there was growth, maturity, refreshment, and spiritual renewal.

My seasons with God will look different than your seasons with God. You could be planting while I am working in His harvest. No matter the season, we must stop and spend time with God. During the seasons of pain, weeping, and mourning, we must remember God. During the seasons of joy, laughter, and dancing, we must not forget God. To God be the glory!

In this season of your life, do you see yourself taking the time to meditate on God’s Word?
