Healing

Day 2: What is Sickness?
Before we can understand Healing, we should understand sickness. First, I believe we are physical, emotional and spiritual beings. When our beings are plagued by forces which attack any one of these areas, it takes away our wholeness, and we are sick.
Sickness can be caused by the devil, as we learn about in Job:
“So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the top of his head.”
Job 2:7
Sickness can be caused by our own sinful behavior:
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction.” Galatians 6:7
And sickness can be caused for God’s glory:
“As He went along, He saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked Him, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’ ‘Neither this man nor his parents sinned,’ said Jesus, ‘but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.'” John 9:1-3
We have all tasted sickness in one form or another. We have been sick from airborne diseases and viruses or we have been sick from bad choices. Some of us have been sick since birth. Sickness attacks us with unwelcome pain, discomfort, frustration and torment. We want to get well and we want to get well soon! We take medications over the counter to heal ourselves and when those fail, we go to the doctor to get more serious treatment. When that fails, we go to hospitals and treatment facilities for more intense solutions. When that fails, someone will say, Well, there’s nothing left to do but Pray.
Could it be that we are getting our treatment plan out of order?

About this Plan
As we look through the various spiritual gifts listed in scripture, one gift that stands out but is not really discussed is the gift of Healing. Jesus sent out His disciples with the instructions “to heal.” It is clear that Healing was a part of their ministry. But what does that mean for us today?
