How I Started Conquering My Self-Esteem Issues
Halfway through my day, I caught a glimpse of myself. It was a no-makeup, messy bun, sweats, and t-shirt kind of day. I had one thought: Wow, you are not looking so pretty. You can imagine where my thoughts wandered from there. Over time, I came to realize I needed to conquer my self-esteem issues, or they could easily derail my day.
Have you ever let those sorts of thoughts overwhelm your day and define you? Have you walked away from the mirror feeling like a failure, believing you looked like a disaster? What labels do you wear and believe? How do you define yourself?
I recently read a quote which said, “Whatever you believe on the inside will manifest on the outside.” The more we think poorly of ourselves, the more our exteriors will match. But we’re not failures or disasters. We’re masterpieces.
A masterpiece has been described as a work done with extraordinary skill, especially an artistic achievement. As a matter of fact, when defining the word masterpiece, I found words like “skilled,” “imaginative,” “intellectual,” and “sculptor” used to describe the creator of the masterpiece.
What we know about our skilled, imaginative, intellectual creator, God, is that we were created in His glorious image. His work is always wonderful. When we criticize ourselves, we are criticizing both His work and His image. Ouch.
God made you unique—fearfully and wonderfully. We are not average or ordinary. We are His handiwork, His workmanship, and His masterpieces.
So the next time you find yourself thinking you’re a mess, remember who created you, and the work he has in store for you. That’s where you’ll find the truth about your own self-worth.
