Motivation For Men – Keeping It Pure

DAY 9 OF 30

“All That Is in the World”

Up to this point we have not distinguished between lust and desire. Our sexual desire is something God gives each of us, but with the intention that those desires be fulfilled within the context of genuine love and marriage, in order to fulfill God's greater purposes for procreation and the building of families. For this reason, we should not feel guilty simply because we happen to notice the beauty of attractive women around us. At the same time, we need to understand and be mindful of the boundary between desire and lust.

Lust occurs when the fulfillment of our desires becomes an end in itself, divorced from God's purposes for those desires. The verse today makes it clear that while legitimate desires are from God, lust is from the world, and lust will always cause us to pursue worldly ends rather than godly ones. When we are tempted, we should remember the verse that follows this one.

"The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever." (1 John 2:17 NASB)
