Why Not Just My Neighborhood?
Mark Stephens
Ready:
“For the Good News must first be preached to all nations.” Mark 13:10
Set:
As someone who works internationally, I hear from time to time “why would you go to the other side of the world when so many people here (neighborhood, state, USA) haven’t committed to following Christ? Look at our needy cities. They need the help even more than some outside the USA.” Although this can be frustrating, knowing what I am called to, I have to answer. It is straight from the Bible.
In Acts 1:8, Jesus told is disciples “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” The Lord wants us to share His love and Word locally, regionally and worldwide. I believe we all have that as a responsibility, but we may have a passion to serve one area more than another. Someone has to go near and far. Where is the Lord calling you to go? What do you want your legacy to be?
Go:
1. How is God calling you to proclaim the Good news to all the nations?
2. Who can you ask some questions to about serving near or far?
3. Begin to pray for God to place a country on your heart to serve.
Workout:
Psalm 117: 1-2
Psalm 86:9
Isaiah 6:8
Overtime:
Lord, I desire to be your servant near and far. Show me where I can best use the gifts You have given me for Your glory and honor. I am here to be used by You. Place a country on my heart for me to serve. Amen.
