Illuminate: Living in the Light

DAY 3 OF 5

Light doesn't just describe God's essence. It also describes God's actions.

Think of the practical ways light helps you.

It helps us see. Even one teeny tiny lightbulb, or a very low-level backlight, makes things visible. Without light, we are blind.

It guides us. A flashlight or headlight provides direction. A distant spotlight gives us a destination. A lighthouse guides ships away from dangerous coastlines and rocks. Without light, we are lost.

It helps us grow. Sunlight provides vitamin D, which is good for strengthening our bones. It helps grow the food that we eat. Without light, we are stagnant.

It makes us joyful. Studies show that light-deprivation can lead to sadness and feelings of hopelessness. Without light, we are sorrowful.

God does these very same things for us (and so much more). He helps us see truth. He guides us to wisdom and right choices. He helps us grow into the people he created us to be. He brings us joy that can't be found in anything else.

God is light because God does the things that light does. But in much bigger and more amazing ways.

TO THINK ABOUT:

What are some specific ways God has helped you see truth? Guided you? Helped you grow? Brought you joy?

About this Plan

Illuminate: Living in the Light

The Bible has a lot to say about light, starting on the very first page and going all the way through to the last page. Followers of Jesus Christ are called to "live in the light" - and that means something very different than "get some sun" or "catch some rays." After all, God didn't just make light. He IS light.
