30 Days In The Gospel Of Mark

DAY 25 OF 30

 Thought:

Jesus went to Gethsemane on the night He was betrayed. He went there to pray. He knew what was about to happen. Willingly going to the cross was a very difficult thing to do. Jesus prayed that God would make a different way for Him to save us. He prayed that He would not have to go to the cross. But He also prayed that God’s will would be done, whatever it was, even if it meant dying. Jesus was very distressed. He asked His friends to pray with Him, but they kept falling asleep. They could not stay awake. Jesus suffered all alone. He was going to be betrayed by one of His closest friends, and while it was happening His other friends slept.

1. What was Jesus doing in Gethsemane?

2. Why was Jesus in anguish?

3. What did Jesus pray to God the Father? What did the disciples do while He prayed?

4. What happened at the very end of today’s passage?

Engage:

We can come to God with any prayer or any request. Jesus prayed to God out of His deepest anguish. He was honest about how He wanted this task to pass from Him. But we should also pray, as Jesus did, that God’s will would be done. God will make us strong to live according to His will. We can trust in Him. What difficult situations do you need to talk to God about? Pray and be honest with Him about your thoughts and feelings.

Deeper Waters:

This week in your prayer time, follow Jesus’ example and submit to God’s plan for your life by ending every request you make of Him with “yet not what I will, but what You will.”
