Your Hobby May Be Your Calling

DAY 3 OF 3

Oftentimes our spiritual calling is much closer to us than we realize. This is because if we will take the time to pay attention to our strengths, skills and desires - we can uncover what may feel like a mystery. But God has set our calling in our hearts with His divine design in creating each of us according to that which He wants us to do.

I want you to take some time to choose from the following strengths which ones  you feel MOST apply to you.  After you’ve chosen your “Top Ten” – come up with ways that these connect with one another.

Pray and ask the Lord to give you insight on how these strengths can be used in the pursuit of the dream He has placed within you.

Now, spend a few moments reflecting on these personal questions:

1. Read John 15:4 – “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.” (NASB) Can you “bear fruit” (or carry out your dream in such a way that it produces lasting impact) apart from abiding in Jesus Christ? Why or why not?

2. What does it mean – or what does it look like on a practical, daily basis to abide in Christ? Use the following Scriptures to help inform your answer: John 8:31, 2 John 1:9, Galatians 2:20, Colossians 3:1-3.

3. Spend some time considering how the Lord may want to use what you consider to be personal “hobbies” or interests on a fuller, more meaningful level. Ask yourself questions such as: Is there a link between what I enjoy doing most and the “dream” God has given to me? Can I expand on my hobbies in a way that benefits more people and brings God more glory? Are there ways I can improve the skill at which I do those things I enjoy the most?

The answers to these reflections and questions can steer you in the direction of your destiny. I'm excited to know God has pointed you toward a greater purpose for Him!
