Summoned: Stepping Up to Live and Lead With JesusSýnishorn
Finding IT
My friend Tom, a couple of years out of college as I write this, has been searching for IT—the specific part of his calling: a life purpose. He’s in a job that pays well. His company will pay for him to attend business school and then bring him back to a boost in salary and more responsibility in the firm. But that job, that career path, is not IT for Tom. He feels restless.
We don’t always get to do IT right away. If you’re a recent college grad, your first job out of college will probably not be IT, even though you might enjoy the work. It could be IT, but there’s a greater chance that it won’t.
While you’re longing to work at IT, God is at work in you. Teaching. Shaping. Building character. Instilling virtues and forming values. Helping you discover who you are and what you’re good at, suited for, passionate about. God is teaching you how to work and lead effectively.
While it’s natural to want to be out there slaying the dragon, God is at work in you, forming a dragon slayer. God is helping you become faithful. To be faithful is to be loyal, dependable, reliable and willing to take risks. You demonstrate faithfulness when you show up, when you keep your word, when you do the work.
