Daily Bible Reading — Sustained By God’s Word Of FaithSýnishorn
May 8
Introduction
The Israelites are tested and continue to sin against the LORD. They are conquered by the King of Mesopotamia. After crying out to the LORD, the LORD sends Othniel to become their leader. He is victorious in war, and there is peace in the land for forty years.
Today’s Scripture: Judges 3:9a
The Israelites cried out to the LORD, and he sent someone to free them.
Today’s Reading
Judges 3:1-11
Reflect
According to yesterday’s reading, the LORD allowed various nations to remain in the land because of Israel’s disobedience (see Judges 2:20-23). In today’s reading, what reason is given for the nations remaining in the land (verses 1-6)? According to verse 6, what did the people do? What occurred as a result of God’s anger? How did the people fare under the leadership of Othniel (verses 7-11)? What did today’s reading teach you about God?
Pray
Holy God, your mercy is new every morning, and you hear me when I call out to you. I thank and praise you for your steadfast love and faithfulness. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Newly elected national leaders
Tomorrow’s Reading
Judges 3:12-31: Ehud becomes a leader in Israel.
