DAY 14 OF 14

Following the call of God on our lives—whatever it might be— requires exercising our faith, and faith requires moving forward into the unknown. It guarantees running into the unexpected. The unpredictable. The outrageous. But it brings the miraculous.

Faith is required when you’re in doubt, when you’re in want, when things are difficult and unclear. “Faith,” the Bible tells us, “is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” It’s the substance that makes the abstract tangible. The evidence of things we cannot see (Hebrews 11:1-2).

If we don’t feel we have enough faith, God tells us how to develop more. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17, NKJV)

  • We can’t touch faith, but it can move mountains. “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20, NIV).
  • We can’t see faith, but it can save us. “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8, NIV).
  • We can’t pick up faith, but it can defend us. “Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:16, NIV).
  • We can’t stand on faith physically, but it can uphold us. “Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld” (2 Chronicles 20:20, NIV).
  • We can’t always explain faith perfectly, but it is the fuel to our prayers. “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24, NIV).

Faith is real and powerful. It can conquer kingdoms, administer justice, and gain what was promised. It can shut the mouths of lions, quench the fury of flames, hold back the edge of the sword, raise the long dead, end torture, and release the imprisoned (Hebrews 11:3-38, NIV). Faith can take us from where we are to right where God wants us to go—undaunted.
