Things Jesus Never Said

DAY 6 OF 6

You have arrived.

Do you remember the moment you gave your life to following Jesus? Did you raise your hand in a church, have a moment alone, or maybe a friend or family member led you in a prayer? The eight-year-old boy you read about in day two was in church with his dad listening to a Christmas message. Where were you?

Wherever you were, you probably didn’t stay there—at least, not forever. The boy is not still in church on Christmas.

We don’t just set up camp at the place we decide to follow Jesus, because following Jesus is more of a hike than a campsite. You don’t decide to give your life to Jesus and then put up your feet, because you need your feet to walk to the places Jesus would. You don’t raise your hand to follow Him and then fold your hands to relax, because you need them to do the things He would do in your church, your city, your friendships, and your family.

You following? Pun intended.

Jesus never looked at His followers and said, “You have arrived.” He said things like, “Get out of the boat; Pick up your mat and walk; Go and make disciples; Love one another; Hunger and thirst for righteousness; Serve Me; Come to Me; Learn from Me;” and of course, “Follow Me.”

But we don’t follow Jesus out of convenience, obligation, or to end up in Heaven one day. We fix our eyes on Jesus with one foot in front of the next and hands ready, because we love and trust Him.

Pray: Jesus, show me how to follow You more closely. Where are we going next?

Here’s more of what Jesus said.

About this Plan

Things Jesus Never Said

If Jesus were on board with every idea His followers have staked His claim in, then He’d be one incredibly confused Son of God, always at odds with Himself and overly busy leading the charge for both sides of every debate. Thankfully, Jesus speaks for Himself. You can read His words in this new Life.Church Bible Plan to accompany Pastor Craig Groeschel’s message series, Things Jesus Never Said.
